The med I was on was citalopram (celexe).
My Dr. told me that is common for the drug to help, and then after awhile you will notice a decrease in its effectiveness, so I have increased it each time I have felt the need to.I was on the Cymbalta 40mg & mirtazapine 15mg combo and it worked well for me. I really think SSRI's are pushed more often than bc of big pharmaceutical company kick backs and marketing. Levomilnacipran, vilazodone, and vortioxetine are newer treatment options for major depressive disorder with a mechanism of action that is not fully understood.
Did you stick with 7.5 and if not what dose helped your anxiety?I did not stick with 7.5, I don’t think people generally do & it’s just good to ease yourself into it so 7.5 is a normal starting dose. Every one is different and some people might benefit from it. Mirtazapine is an antidepressant medicine. I don't know exactly how often, and I can't provide a time-line for each time I increased my dosage, but over the last 3 years I slowly went up and up every time I felt like I needed to and I am now at 30mg. It made me feel super gnarly and sick, and I had horrible anxiety so I didn’t even give it a chance. But, I know that they are and can be amazing drugs to lots of people, I am not saying don't try them.Mirtazpine is a tetracyclic antidepressant, and from my understanding, these types of antidepressants don't take as long to work and offer less side effects without such severe withdraw potential. I didn’t think it was worth it as it usually takes months to work. I’d read a sentence over and over again and not comprehend it.
Thankfully, I've had no abnormal apetite since that change.I'm not quite sure what you're talking about when you 30 mg not feeling like an antidepressant once you made that switch.
I was on Zoloft almost twenty years ago and I gained 20 pounds, didn't cry and didn't orgasm for six years but my current doctor thinks I was on too high of a dose and he told me lower doses won't do that. This is obviously just my opinion but I'm now on two medications that were around before SSRI's and are still widely used and more effective imho. I've struggled with severe anxiety and depression since about 2013. 15 seemed to reduce my anxiety and had a nice sedating effect without much fatigue, the 30 made waking up very difficult. I wouldn't go as far as saying it cured me though. The initial side-effects of the Mirtazapine were worth the decrease in anxiety and depression for me. I notice a significant difference when I'm on 30.
I read somewhere that it could suppress the immune system and stopped but now I think it's very rare and I'm ready to take it again. (No recollection of acting different but my Mom wouldn't make that up.) I remember one of the first nights of taking the Mirtazapine, I had weird auditory hallucinations while trying to fall asleep.
So far I'm not getting much else from it though, I know it takes a few weeks to fully start working but I expected to feel a bit different by now.
Took citalopram for over a month and have had side effects for over 2 years..wouldnt go near an ssri again even if you paid me . I personally couldn't handle that one annoying side effect Mirtazapine is known for: becoming a bottomless pit. Always look into the drugs your Dr. recommends to make sure it is something you want to try, but while exploring all possibilities refrain from letting other's experience's hinder your experience's potential - don't expect specific side-effects because often you will convince yourself you are having them. Compare Mirtazapine vs Sertraline head-to-head with other drugs for uses, ratings, cost, side effects, interactions and more. It was concluded that both compounds had roughly same level of therapeutic benefits with Mirtazapine having a slight statistical advantage, but also reaching those benefits in roughly half of the time as it took the SSRI's to achieve in the study. Otherwise, it was probably the best medication I had - helped me sleep through the night and pretty much controlled my symptoms. Have not taken any antidepressants in over ten years.Any experience with Citalopram (Celexa) or Sertraline (Zoloft)? Citalopram is bad for sex drive long-term or permanently..and permantley alters emotions and dulls good feelings aswell.
This is another reason I’m hoping to taper off the Mirtazapine soon.Man, I’m jealous.
